ALTAMIRA and the European Day of Rock Art, presented by the Cantabrian anthropologist and scholar, Gonzalo Sánchez Eguren.
The Altamira Cave, located in the municipality of Santillana del Mar, Cantabria (Spain), houses one of the most important prehistoric painting and artistic cycles. It is part of the Altamira Cave and Paleolithic Rock Art of the Cantabrian Coast, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
Gonzalo will explain how our prehistoric ancestors lived, what their social organization was like, what they believed in, and what role they played in the evolution of society.
Location: University of Michigan College of Pharmacy – Auditorium PHARM 1544 (1100 N. University Ave. – Ann Arbor, MI). Entrance will be indicated with an ADEMI sign, with directions to the room.
Parking: Available at street meters or in the University parking lot at 525 Church St.
